"Yay for me, Luigi!"
Luigi is a playable character in Mushroom Kingdom Fusion and member of the Mushroom Kingdom Coalition. His home world is the Mushroom Kingdom.
History[]
Luigi first appeared in the original Mario Bros. arcade game as a simple palette swap of Mario. This trend continued for some time throughout the NES and SNES series.
When the Gamecube came out, Luigi developed into his own person with Luigi's Mansion. In this game, he showed his fear of ghosts and general lack of bravery compared to Mario. Since then, he has remained a distinct and unique character in his own right.
Gameplay[]
Luigi's special jump is the flutter jump. By pressing up + jump, Luigi is granted more airtime and impeccable control in the air, allowing him to make precise landings and to negotiate long overhangs.
Luigi's fireballs travel as they did in Super Smash Bros. series: green-colored and unaffected by gravity (flying straight ahead). Also, Luigi can angle the fireballs downward by crouching then firing, but they do not bounce along the ground like Mario's can. They are slower and shorter ranged than Mario's as well.
Luigi is very similar to Mario in terms of control, but with some differences. He has a better jump with more hang time, but poor inertia, making him slide when coming to a sudden stop while running. He is harder to control on the ground, but better in some situations, such as areas with lots of jumping. He also shares Mario's advantage of having more power-ups to choose from than the other characters.
Level Controls[]
See Basic Controls which goes over Map and standard Level Controls.
Below are non-standard controls specific to Mario in his Initial form (except when otherwise noted). Parenthesis indicate optional.
Action | Key[s] | Description |
---|---|---|
Running | Hold LEFT or RIGHT + RUN
|
Luigi moves in the Left or Right direction at a faster speed. Luigi can jump farther and higher while Running. |
Higher/Further Jump | [Running] + Press JUMP
|
Luigi jumps in the air at a higher height (and a further distance if Running). |
Stomp | [Movement] + Press JUMP
|
Jumping on top of enemies ("stomping") as Luigi hurts them, except for some enemies that can't be stomped on. Generally watch out for spiky headed enemies. |
Flutter Jump | Hold Up + [Movement] + Press JUMP
|
Luigi performs his signature jump where he will jump higher. The ascent and descent will also be slower then a normal jump. Jumping ("stomping") on enemies with the Flutter Jump hurts them (and even defeats enemies in 1 hit that would normally take several). |

Trivia[]
- If the player clears a level as Luigi, the "Course Clear" music from Super Mario World plays.
- If Luigi loses a life, the "Lose a Life" music from the Super Mario All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros. 3 plays.
- If Luigi grabs a Starman, the "Invincible" music from Super Mario World plays
- The 1up sound from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island plays whenever Luigi collects a 1up.
- In earlier versions of MKF, Luigi's exclusive powerup was the Cape Feather from Super Mario World before it was replaced with the Superball Flower.
- In the v0.875 update, the Carrot power-up that turned Luigi into Bunny Luigi was replaced with the Propeller Mushroom from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
- Luigi's Sci-Fi Suit was originally the Spartan Suit (the same as Mario's) but colored red, before he got his own Sci-Fi Suit ability.
- When playing as Luigi, the "PLAYER START!" screen before a level starts comes from Super Mario World. In earlier versions of MKF, every playable character had a "PLAYER START!" screen similar to the one in SMW before it was decided that each character would have a unique "PLAYER START!" screen. As a result, Luigi shares the SMW "PLAYER START!" screen with Mario.
