The Starman, sometimes also referred to as Super Stars or simply Stars, is a powerup that renders a character invincible for a short set amount of time. It can either be found hidden in blocks or by gathering 10 Cherries. Characters who have a normally slow running speed, such as Wario or Simon Belmont, will receive a speed boost to Mario's top speed while it is active.
Any weak enemy will be killed instantly upon contact with the Starman. If a character kills enough enemies during the length of the Starman, then the character will gain one extra life for every ninth enemy killed until the Starman fades.
Below is a table of what the Starman gives:
Enemies Killed | Points Awarded |
1 enemy | 100 points |
2 enemies | 200 points |
3 enemies | 400 points |
4 enemies | 800 points |
5 enemies | 1000 points |
6 enemies | 2000 points |
7 enemies | 4000 points |
8 enemies | 8000 points |
9 enemies | 1 extra life |
Certain obstacles, such as Spike Traps, can be touched without taking damage while under the effects of a Starman. However, not all enemies or bosses can be defeated with the Starman. Also, the player can still lose a life if he or she falls into a bottomless pit, lava, or gets crushed by a wall or other obstacle.

Trivia[]
- When the player uses the Starman in either Birabuto Bash, Muda Madness or Eastoned Kingdom. the music playing is always a remix of "Galop infernal" from Orpheus in the Underworld by Jacques Offenbach (which was also used in Super Mario Land instead of the usual Mario invincible theme) instead of the character-specific invincible theme.
- Early in MKF's development, there was a bug that existed in the Goombas where there was skipping in the points awarded but that issue has long been resolved.
- Starting with the v0.875 update, the chain effect of defeated enemies with the Starman resets back to 1 after the ninth enemy is defeated, meaning it is no longer possible to collect multiple 1ups after defeating more than nine enemies in one go.
