The Mushroom Kingdom is the main setting in the Mario series of games. It's home to Mario, Luigi, Wario, Bowser and all the other Mario characters. Princess Peach acts as the ruling monarch of the kingdom.
Characteristics[]
The Mushroom Kingdom is most well-known for its diverse array of landscapes. While its exact layout varies from game to game, it can be counted upon to have lush forests, barren desserts, mountains, snowy plains and even pathways to the heavens. Toads, the main citizens of the kingdom, live in all these areas and have adapted a large variety of cultures and customs to match, the most well-known of which is Toad Town, the capital city. Various other species, such as Goombas, Bumpties, Yoshis and Boos, all live in the kingdom, usually amongst their own kind.
It's also shown to be a very magical place. Classic power-ups such as the Super Mushroom and Fire Flower dot the landscape as blocks hang in mid-air effortlessly. The most powerful of this magic seems to be from stars, such as the Starman, the Power Stars that protect Peach's Castle and the stars in the sky that grant the wishes of the people. In both the kingdom and across the world the kingdom resides in exist a wide array of magical artifacts with powerful attributes, which make them very desirable for evildoers.
Unfortunately, the Mushroom Kingdom is also known for its constant attacks from Bowser, who has long desired to make it and Princess Peach his own, not to mention other forces that seek to take the land for their own reasons. It has been subject to the hostile abduction of Peach dozens of times, the loss of its wishes, alien invasion, direct bombardment and even having the royal castle ripped from the ground twice. Thankfully, the Super Mario Bros. have defeated everything that's been thrown at the kingdom time and again.
